Optis vs 45ft Cats in SF Bay: Who flips first?

June 15, 2011

I love seeing the Optis in this video, reaching around like it’s no big deal in 25knots, while Russell Coutts’ AC45 cat capsizes in the background.  Glad folks were wearing helmets that day.  Russell’s interview the day before was telling:

“You’ve got to get to the point of finding the edge and not going over the edge, and sometimes you’re going to go over the edge. … Because the closer you design it to the edge, the faster it will go. But you don’t want to go over the edge. Or preferably not over the edge.”

Extreme Opti Sailing: 20knots in Corpus

March 17, 2011

Nice video of some Optis having fun Corpus Christi’s 20+ knots, at an INTYSA clinic last weekend.  Thanks to AYC member Eric Rochard for the forward.

Maybe we should teach some PBJ classes there?

Video: pirates and such

June 8, 2009

Here’s a video from the June 6 class. Lot’s of good wind, so the kids had more time on the Picos than Optis. Likely a few scarred for life after crashing into the rocks…

Video: a light air PBJ day

June 5, 2009

Here’s a video from the first PBJ of 2009 (May 30), with the 9:30a class. It’s somewhere in between watching grass grow and paint drying, but the kids sure are cute.
